Position Summary

As a Kitchen Steward, you will play a crucial role in the smooth operation of our kitchen and food preparation areas. The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order within the kitchen, cleaning all kitchenware and equipment, and ensuring that hygiene and safety standards are strictly followed at all times. You will work closely with chefs, kitchen supervisors, and other culinary team members to support daily food service activities and help deliver a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities

As part of your role at Serco, your core duties will include:

  • Washing, sanitizing, and organizing all kitchenware, including pots, pans, cutlery, dishes, and glassware
  • Operating dishwashers and other cleaning equipment efficiently and safely
  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen areas, service stations, sinks, floors, and work surfaces
  • Sorting and storing clean items properly to ensure quick access when needed
  • Assisting with the unloading and storage of kitchen deliveries and stock items
  • Removing waste, recyclable materials, and kitchen trash according to health‑safe procedures
  • Supporting kitchen staff by staging and preparing basic kitchen areas for service
  • Following all HACCP, hygiene, and safety regulations during every shift
  • Reporting equipment issues, supply shortages, or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned by the Stewarding Supervisor or Kitchen Management team

Qualifications & Skills

To succeed in this role, you should have:

✔ A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required)
✔ Previous experience in a kitchen steward, dishwashing, or food service support role is an advantage
✔ Basic knowledge of food hygiene, sanitation, and safety procedures
✔ The ability to work standing for long periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and bending
✔ Strong teamwork skills, positive attitude, and a commitment to quality
✔ Good communication skills in English — other languages are beneficial
✔ Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends or extended service hours during busy periods
