The Role Play
This is not a mechanical job; you will work with a digital system that moves you into shelves and racks. As a picker in the MAF retail supermarket environment, you will be carrying out the responsibilities of online grocery order fulfillment. The job is fast, and being 100% accurate matters. Checking expiry dates, following FIFO, and avoiding mismatches or discrepancies are among the tasks included in the role.
Day-to-day operation
These will be your daily operational tasks at MAF Retail. Every day has a rhythm; some days are super busy, and some are not. But most importantly, you need to put your efforts into this business to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Every day, you will receive a picking list via the online system, and your responsibility is to fulfill the order quickly and accurately. Once you have the list, go to the shelves or racks where they are listed and scan them using an RF gun or barcode scanner. Separate the picked items into a basket or trolley.
- In the meantime, your responsibility is to check the quality of the items that you pick every time. The package’s expiry date for food items, or it could be frozen items that have to meet quality expectations. If you find something that is not a good pick, don’t use it, even if it’s the last piece. MAF retail always upholds high standards of customer service.
- If an item is out of stock at the moment, your responsibility is to inform the supervisor about the item and the details as soon as possible. Update it in the system, contact the customer to politely inform them about the OOS item, and try to upsell a similar brand without forcing. This helps both the customer and the organization to keep the operation smooth and reliable.
- Rearrange shelf goods by expiry date using the first-in, first-out (FIFO) method to keep the shelf organized for easy picking. Remove the expired items from the shelves, report the quantities and amounts to the supervisor, and upload them to the system.
- Keeping the hallways clean and tidy, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning shelves and racks are among your responsibilities. Replace broken price tags or shelf trackers, and check prices that have recently been updated in the system and need to be matched with the physical price tags.
- Working as a team will help keep retail operations running smoothly and support each other during peak hours, weekends, and evenings; this could include providing packing help, pulling a trolley for a customer, or guiding a customer. It’s not all about just picking throughout the day.
- Be friendly and polite with customers who come into the store, even if you’re working under pressure during high-volume order picking
Picker Job Requirements
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the retail industry, warehouse industry, or a relevant e-commerce platform experience that matches this role. Experience as a picker is an advantage.
- Secondary high school education or diploma. It’s not about how educated you are; it’s about the ability to demonstrate accuracy and consistency.
- Good command of English to communicate with customers and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision during busy hours.
- Willing to work on a flexible schedule.
- Knowledge of retail products of different temperatures, brand categories, dry, and liquid.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and spreadsheets to input data and send reports.
- Knowing how to handle an RF gun and barcode scanners, as well as experience with POS, is not mandatory.
- The candidate has to relocate to Sharjah before the job starts.
The right fit for this role
The person has to be physically fit and in good health. This job requires bending, lifting heavy objects, and standing for long hours. Working under pressure with minimal errors is a major consideration. One wrong pick could lead to a disappointed customer review, which gives the company a negative impression. Being accurate, fast, understanding customer suggestions and requirements, and fulfilling orders will create a smooth operation for everyone.
Salary & Benefits
The monthly salary will be 2000 AED (tax-free), including company benefits in accordance with UAE labor law. This package does not include extra working hours and holiday compensation.
Providing area company accommodation with 4-sharing comfortable rooms, which include a kitchen and laundry facilities.
Free medical insurance provided.
Free transportation is provided from the accommodation to work.
Staff discounts for MAF retail products and other brand discounts under the Majid Al Futtaim Group.
Uniform provided by the company.
2 years of residency visa provision.
30 days of annual leave per year with air tickets.
