In Dubai, most Asian nationalities, such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Nepal, and African nationalities, have reported many more times to the UAE labor rights court.
You must identify scam companies and individuals who request job money as an advance before you apply for a job here. These are some major reasons that people got scammed.
1. Applying from Home Country: This has become the most common way to lose your money. On social media, scammers are promoting fancy salaries, facilities, and more. Those who are not in the UAE used to believe that those scammers are legit, but that’s not the truth. They request a down payment before the job visa process and show fake documents. Eventually, they disappear with that hard-earned money.
2. Lack of knowledge of visa and process: This opportunity is a great chance for scammers. Because most people have no idea how to navigate employment visas, etc., they pay a fee to obtain the visa. But once they landed in Dubai, they realized it wasn’t a job visa; it was just a visit visa. There are a bunch of reports of people getting caught by the police just for working on a visit visa. It’s completely against United Arab Emirates labor law and could result in a fine or deportation.
3. Multi-national job competition: The United arab emirates has a lot of cultures represented all around the world: Asia, Africa, the UK, and the United States. Among them, Asian and African people are the highest in terms of getting scammed. Hence, the job market is highly competitive. E.g., if a company is hiring for one server position, there are thousands of candidates waiting to grab that opportunity, and here’s the catch. This opportunity is used by scammers who promise to secure a job position and charge a fee for that. So people want to get hired as soon as possible, but unfortunately, they are using this the wrong way and lose money.
Life-Saving Rules
Visit Visa job confirmation: Most scammers do so to get a down payment or advance from a candidate willing to work here; they arrive in the UAE on a visit visa. Once they arrive, they promise to prepare their work visa, and some cheap companies hire them for a lower salary. The most critical part is that those companies will not process your work visa. In the end, you get scammed, and the company does nothing for you. These games are played together by scammers and cheap companies, so be aware.
Company legal verifications: fake logos, fake reviews, and fake business profiles in Dubai and on major job portals. If you got an interview, you’d better double-check online about the company you’re interviewing with. If they don’t mention much detail or their own website, the second option is to call the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Human Resources. From there, you can get confirmation on whether the company is legally licensed.
Job confirmation charges: This refers to the company charging money for the work visa process, accommodation, or transportation. But according to Dubai labor laws, a legal company must provide an employment visa or pay the medical test fees. None of these is legal. The employer carries all of these charges and responsibilities. Not the employee.
UAE Fraud Story’s 2026
Interview registration fee: This scam type is among the most common in Dubai. This starts with an email that mentions an interview with HR and includes the location and a mobile number, along with a specific date and time. Once you attend, they will discuss an interview with you, and then, before you leave, they will inform you that to get the job, you have to pay the registration fee. Once you pay, they confirm that the job is secure and that you will get a direct interview with that specific HR person, but unfortunately, these are all lies. They will charge you an amount, but that job is a scam.
Be aware of
Video Call Interview: Most of the fraudsters will skip this. They don’t want to reveal the reality. Instead, they will text you on Telegram or WhatsApp and describe the things. So once you get a suspect job, get them into a Google Meet or Zoom meeting.
Confirm the company: Once they send you all the details via mail, copy the contact information and names, then Google it to find out whether it’s real or fake. Most of the locations in Dubai jobs use the “Abu Hail” area.
Soft copy offer: A fake employer may send you a soft copy of the job offer letter.
