As a Barista, Responsibilities

  • Most people think that calibrating, brewing, and making lattes are the job roles of a barista. But for Costa Coffee, it’s something above and beyond the coffee. The real battle begins before the cafe opens. Attend the workstation on time and inspect the machines and equipment that you need to use all day long. Make sure the machines are calibrated for the beans according to the temperature.
  • Clean the pastry and bakery item display shelf before placing any pastry platter. Ensure the display glasses are clean without any stains. Check the expiry dates of the pastry items, such as cakes, loaves, cookies, etc. If something is about to expire soon, bring it from raw to sell to minimize the wastage. This is repeatable every single day.
  • Present the bakery and pastry items according to the gluten-free and non-gluten sections. The display of platters is a matter of attracting the customers.
  • After these tasks, it’s time to get the customer’s order accurately. Grinding the coffee, changing calibrations, extraction times, steaming milk, espresso shots, ts, and latte art are some of the duties, and additional knowledge about the coffee bean types, types of milk, dairy, and plant-based is a must. Once you get the customer order, verify with them once again and call them by their names for the beverages.
  • Keep a calm and friendly manner during peak- to off-peak hours. This has to be consistently maintained to provide great customer service for the customers, and this is one of the signatures that people come back to back to the Costa Coffee.
  • Working under pressure during evenings or weekends, such as handling customers in the queue while receiving the delivery orders and preparing them. Ensure every customer gets their drink accurately and within a certain amount of time. Being fast and accurate is vital here.

Require Skillset

  • Having relevant experience in hospitality is required, especially as a barista in a high-volume or fast-paced café, plus being able to work on rotational, split shifts is needed, and a candidate willing to relocate to any location across the UAE regions.
