Gulf+Coffee? It has a long history that shows how Arabs love coffee and how it fits their mood. The atmosphere, coffee types, desserts, and many more provide a great experience. If you have a passion for being a barista and love to gain skills, the UAE is a gem of a destination to start your coffee career.
But here’s the problem: it’s not a huge one, but getting hired as a barista in the UAE is not as easy as you think. There are. There’s high competition for jobs in this career. Because UAE hospitality is on another level, it’s not just in hotels; even cafes are competitive. Cafes are near the beaches, in the mall, busy cities, just not requiring a basic coffee background; they need something more to bring to the table. So, in this blog, we are gonna share guidance on getting hired as a barista in the United Arab Emirates.
Coffee Market United Arab Emirates
Before applying, you’d better understand the UAE coffee market well. It has spread widely across global cafes (Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Costa Coffee). In the specialty concept, Caribou Coffee, Common Grounds, and Roaster’s Coffee are only a few. Marriott, Hilton, Atlantis Royal, and Jumeirah take another place among hotel chains for cafe concepts. Above all, those sectors have distinct coffee cultures, salary structures, and expectations. The
United Arab Emirates is better known for specialty coffee methods such as V60, Chemex, and French press. and it requires demanding technical knowledge and experience in the latter arts, brewing, coffee grinding, and sometimes roasting. Most global cafe companies provide basic training, but sometimes star-class hotels are willing to hire a cafe artist. This could depend on what you’re applying for. Knowing which environments suit you will help you get hired.
Coffee Culture
In the UAE, a great barista must have art skills for coffee lattes, be a storyteller, and just having passion is not optional. Guests love to know where these beans come from and why the taste is so special, the way it does.

Build your resume as a barista.
In the UAE market, your CV should be clear and to the point. Hence, it’s the very first impression of an unknown person. Per week, hiring managers receive tons of resumes. But what makes picks in the context? It’s not just about a three-page resume; what matters is the detail included. Always start with a summary that shows in detail how far you took your passion as a barista. Not just about duties, but your skills and experience as well.
Attached are some videos of your latte art skills, showing how you’re professionally pouring coffee. Plus, instead of just writing coffee preparation, mention how many pax you served per day. That significantly shows who you are under high-volume pressure.
Interview Process
Curriculum Vitae & Cover Letter – Generic your application with clear details about your work experience, what you gained during that time.
Note: If you have no idea how to create a cover letter, we have posted guidance in a previous blog; please follow that information.
Screening – Expect a voice or video Zoom call from the hiring manager once your CV has been shortlisted. According to the UAE hiring process, phone interviews are less likely, but be prepared to answer questions about your skills and experience.
Interview in person – this is your opportunity to get attention from the hiring manager. As we mentioned before, first impressions matter, so be prepared to answer questions (we have uploaded the most common interview questions on our blog menu).
Practical Trial – Now it’s time to shine. Your show time will start at this phase. The head barista may assess your barista skills in brewing, latte art, roasting, flavor knowledge, and coffee preparation speed.
Final Step – Congrats. This will be the result. If you demonstrated your skills in the practical test, the food and beverage manager will discuss further information about the joining process with you.
Job offer sign, Medical and Visa Process – Once you sign your job offer letter, the company will start the visa arrangements. You have to undergo medical tests, including a blood test, an X-ray, and a stool test. After 1-2 days, the medical report results will be sent to your employer, and then, if you pass, they will start the visa stamping procedure. Within 1-4 weeks, you will receive your visa stamp and the United Arab Emirates residential ID.
